Engadget has an interesting piece today about an new UI paradigm MIT has been developing by combining Augmented Reality (AR) with the Internet of Things(IOT). Check out their video to get a feel for what you could do. Eyes-on: MIT Media Lab’s Smarter Objects can map a user interface onto… anything (video).
What are all the things around your house that you have struggled to set up or program in the past? What would you like to control via an AR overlay on your phone or tablet?

Oy Gevalt! is a blog dedicated to my grandmother, Guta Gantz. An Aushwitz and Buchenwald survivor, she is not only the strongest women I’ve ever known, she also invented “Leaning In”. As in, leaning into her grandkids to get married already! She said Oy Gevalt! a lot.
For those of you non-Yiddish speakers, ‘Oy Gevalt’ is an expression of utmost anxiety, frustration or shock. Similar to how we might use “Good Grief!” or “OMG!” Often used while kvetching, it’s a very poignant expression for any working mother of two and/or women in tech. I am both.
